Our history

North Kent Referrals was founded in August 2001 by John H C Hutt BVSc(Hons) BA(Open) CertVD MACVSc MRCVS. It was after a lengthy spell of 14 years in general practice in the Medway area that John realised there was not a suitably local referral centre, and that there was a growing need for one. He set about looking for a fitting place to open a practice which was to be the premier referral centre in the south east of England; after a while the site at Blue Bell Hill became available and was duly purchased.

When it first started in August 2001 the staff consisted of Ros Nancarrow, a colleague of John's from general practice, and John himself, offering consultations mainly in John's primary discipline of dermatology. However this was only the beginning and as word spread and the business grew, various other disciplines were added until as it stands today North Kent Referrals covers nine disciplines and employs 14 clinicians, many at diplomate level. North Kent Referrals has always set out to provide outstanding client care and a unique referral experience. The location of the practice in the heart of beautiful woodland with stunning views over the weald of Kent only adds to that.

The practice achieved Hospital status recognition in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon's Practice standards scheme in early 2007. This involves a rigorous inspection by the RCVS to ensure that standards have been attained that provide the highest levels of patient care, cleanliness, equipment and expertise; repeat inspection takes place every four years. This scheme, which is still voluntary for veterinary practices to take part in, allows clients to make a distinction between different practices without requiring veterinary knowledge or time spent looking around it. The RCVS now allow us to use the logo on our home page to signify that we comply. If you want to know more about this scheme please click on the logo and it will take you to their website.
