Dr Babis Koffas MVB PhD DipECVIM-CA(Cardiology) MRCVS

European Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology

Babis Koffas graduated from the Aristotle University Veterinary School (AUVS), Thessaloniki, Greece in 1998. After spending time as an intern and working in small animal practice, he completed a PhD in feline cardiomyopathies at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2003. He then did a residency at the Royal Veterinary College in small animal cardiology and ran a busy referral clinic for cardiorespiratory disease between 2003-2006 . Babis became a Diplomate of the European College of Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2007.

Babis is a world expert in novel echocardiographic techniques (tissue Doppler imaging), has spoken at many international veterinary congresses and acted as a reviewer for various veterinary journals. He has a particular interest in interventional cardiology. Available equipment and procedures offered at North Kent Referrals are:

  • Echocardiography (2-D, M-mode, colour flow and spectral Doppler)
  • Tissue Doppler imaging (pulsed-TDI)
  • Digital thoracic radiography
  • Multichannel ECG & 24-hour ambulatory ECG Holter monitoring
  • Indirect blood pressure monitoring
  • Pericardiocentesis & thoracocentesis
  • Bronchoscopy

Interventional cardiac procedures such as pulmonic balloon valvuloplasty and pacemaker implantation can be arranged. Babis would be happy to discuss or admit any case requiring cardiorespiratory investigation.
